Edited by: Furious Hawk on 06/12/2007 13:00:59 This is odd, I don't have the boot file, yet I remember restarting my computer last night just fine after patching...
Maybe I remember wrong, or perhaps my XP is 1337 and does not need a stupid boot file to tell it what to do. :P
I'm going to wait for an official fix by CCP, instead of downloading the file from a link listed earlier. I just hope the snow in my area doesn't knock down any power cables hehe.

Edited by: Furious Hawk on 06/12/2007 19:41:31 Ok, well it would appear my computer was not affected, so I'm confused. I did a system restore to the day before Trinity's launch anyway, and took a peek in my C drive root directory. There is no boot file there, yet the computer starts fine. There is however a backup boot file in some other folder, as well as a boot file in the EVE folder (wtf CCP?).

boot.ini is a hidden and system file, by default these aren't shown.
If your computer boots up fine...you're ok.
I had myself set to view all files, hidden or not. It was not there.

Nope, I would not be in this thread if I did lol. This is just XP Home Edition SP2.
My laptop has XP Pro SP2 on it, and I have not updated EVE at all on that. I want to do a little experimenting, but I take it that the current patch file works properly since they keep talking specifically about "before 0400 GMT"? If the current patch does work fine then I can't experiment. :/

If you have successfully turned your computer off and on then you don't have anything to fix in the first place.
If you have not turned it off out of fear and want to check for the boot tile, then go to the root of your drive and then on the top back click tools > folder options > view > and then switch the radio button to "show hidden files and folders" and also uncheck "hide protected operating system files". After doing that, see if you can find a "boot" file in that root directory. If there is none there, then go to the windows folder in the root directory, then the pss folder in that. Copy and paste the "boot.ini.backup" file into the root directory, then rename it to "boot" (you don't need to type .ini because the file is already listed like that, and if you add it yourself it will treat it like a name of the file and then your computer won't recognize it). After doing that, go back and reset the radio button and checkbox you changed earlier.
